What we fear

What is it we fear the most?
Non-existence.
Symbolised most often by death.
What do the three greatest monsters, Dracula, The Mummy, and Frankenstein's Creature all have in common? They are all dead! They are walking death.

We fear that apart from Source we don't exist. And it's a particularly hard thought to face up to, because it's true!

Of course the truer truth beneath that one is that not apart from Source, we DO exist, and it's a much better life. No comparison.

"Nothing really matters"

A few years ago, shortly after I'd started studying nonduality and the idea that what we call "life" is a dream, and doesn't exist, I saw a therapist for some back pains I had. The therapist, pretty much out of the blue, told me about another patient of his who had terminal cancer, and how this guy had told him: "nothing really matters". I don't know why he told me that. I guess he is a person who operates very intuitively.

Here is an interesting short article about Steve Jobs, written upon Steve's stepping down as CEO of Apple (but staying on staff) in August 2011, due to ill health. This guy was phoned by Steve, on a Sunday...
...we have an urgent issue, one that I need addressed right away. I've already assigned someone from my team to help you, and I hope you can fix this tomorrow" said Steve.
"I've been looking at the Google logo on the iPhone and I'm not happy with the icon. The second O in Google doesn't have the right yellow gradient. It's just wrong and I'm going to have Greg fix it tomorrow.

A great leader cares about things a great deal. But somebody who cares that strongly about every tiny little detail is just bound to make himself sick sooner or later. The mind and the body just can't handle that much tension.

A wise man said that the estimation of the importance of a datum is as important as the datum itself. And I think that datum is one of the really important ones.

Conjecture

To be willing to die for an idea is to set a rather high price on conjecture.
- Anatole France

Isn't "conjecture" a wonderful word?

conjecture -- con·jec·ture
[kuhn-jek-cher]
–noun
1.
the formation or expression of an opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof.
2.
an opinion or theory so formed or expressed; guess; speculation.

We believe things so fiercely because they are all conjecture. If they were true, there would be no need for strong belief.

Where you're going?

If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.
           -- Laurence J. Peter

Somewhere else than what?

When I was young, I protested mightily against the Eastern idea of letting higher powers take over control and direction of your life. I had been taught that control was all and it was absolute. And there was no excuse for not controlling every bit of your life, and more than that, it should actually extend to everything around you. They call it "responsibility".

In recent years I've learned that this desire comes only from the ego. And what's bad about it is:

  1. it's simply not possible. The ego can control a lot, with enough power, but never even close to Everything.
  2. If you can, it won't make you happy. It will only make you sad control freak trapped by fears of anything changing. (Which it will. No emperor every ruled more than a few decades.)
  3. As an ego, we basically don't know anything. Just look at one little area: all the different theories about what's good to eat and what's not. We know nothing.
  4. The "higher forces" are really our Higher Self. From an ego viewpoint, it can often feel like an outside influence, but it is Us, only from a universal viewpoint, which does know everything, and knows what's best for the Whole.
So, my belief is that if you have to apply a lot of force to get "your will", you're probably fighting your Higher Self, and... well, guess who is the biggest and baddest? Give up sooner and be happy sooner.

Lorre thought

"When I was in the shower this morning, I thought: If we assume a Big Bang beginning of the universe, then every molecule, every atom, every proton, every electron, every quark, every wavelength, every vibration, every multi-dimensional string, every everything that makes up everything else shares an ineffable property of pre-Bang Oneness. Assuming that, then every everything is always moving in one of two directions: either away from that primordial state, or returning towards it. We feel these quantum movements. Moving away is experienced as loneliness, fear, anger and despair. Returning is experienced as one or more of the infinite variations and gradations of what we call love. Now, while some might say that equating the miracle of human feelings to the meandering of sub-atomic bric-a-brac robs them of their mystery, the truth is quite the opposite. Connecting our fundamental experience of life to the great mystery of existence ties us to the eternal within our every waking moment. We are not separate. We are made of the same stuff that existed at the beginning and will exist at the end. Therefore, the question we must each ask ourselves is simple: "In what direction am I moving today - towards oneness, or away from it?" When I was done reflecting on this, I stepped out of the shower, toweled off, and, while glancing at the mirror, pondered a new thought: 'I have a pretty nice ass for a guy my age.'"

God will

God will and man can, forgive anything and anybody which has love. And any and all of God's creatures has love.

This came with or maybe after a dream I had.

A short overview

One might say that there is Source (god), who is infinite and One.

And then there is an illusional mind, which has deluded itself into thinking it is separate from Source. This of course is *intensely* traumatic, which has necessitated the further illusion of Time to deal with it bit by bit.

A further dealing mechanism is that the Big Mind, in order to further communication (which is symbolic of contact with Source) has split itself (still illusions) into billions of “mini-Me’s”, separate little consciousnesses, which battle out the conflicts of life, all symbolic of the main one, the apparent separation from god/Source. So we are all illusionary characters in one big dream.

One wake-up step is becoming aware that you are One Mind with everybody else. Another and later and ultimate is the Big Mind giving up the separate illusory existence and becoming one with Source. (Like it’s been all the time.)

Hyper-active minds

I’m reading a book called Introvert Power. Amongst other things, the author observes (with clinical evidence) that the minds and brains of introverts are more active than those of extroverts. Which is why introverts tend to get over-stimulated when going out, or being in busy places, or otherwise being emotionally "aroused" as the psychs call it.

The more progress I make, and the more I learn, the easier it is for me to process mental phenomena, ideas, and energy. And this, for me, means that the mind is becoming more and more active, so far. And I've become more and more introvert, needing less and less stimulation to start the mind going. The issue is more often to stop it going, or even slow it down!

I'm wondering by the way, for an individual: is becoming a Totally Clear Channel (for energy processing) and Having All The Energy Processed, All Done, two different phenomena which occur at two different times? (If so, I guess the latter happens first, and I'd guess the second would happen not long after, in the same lifetime.) I think we should know much more about these things. Who's in charge!?!

Sphinx And Medusa

Sphinx And Medusa
Clark Ashton Smith

The old constraint of an essential bond
Hath linkt them in my mind: opposed they stare,
Twin silences, that through Time's Otherwhere,
The ruinous past, thus each to each respond,
One with mysterious gaze that sees beyond
The straining suns, calm as the voidness there;
And one with eyes like deserts of despair,
Flameless as granite, clear as diamond.

They gaze across the past... Yet thought must see
That eve of time when man no longer yearns,
Grown deaf before Life's Sphinx, whose lips are barred;
When from the spaces of Eternity,
Silence, a rigorous Medusa, turns
On the lost world the stress of her regard.

-----
I looked up this poem because Tim Powers borrowed the last words for his excellent book The Stress Of Her Regard.
Medusa reminded me of the Holy Spirit (or Higher Self) regarding the Universe from outside it, from "the end of time".

Aliens, conspiracies, and whatnot

Years ago I was for a period interested in humankind’s developments, possible aliens, conspiracies and all that. But now I more believe that The Universe is a dream, and that includes *everything*, including "higher levels", what happens in other dimensions or between lifetimes, whatever, it’s all a dream. And as such, what happens in the dream takes second place (a distant one even) to just the fact of realizing it’s a dream, and on waking up from it, to reality.

There *is* a reality outside the Universe, but since it is not within space or time, or limited (defined) by them, it can’t be understood by human minds.
It can partly be perceived. People who occasionally have flashes of light in the peripheral vision, may have started on that road. The light is a symbol of Reality, or Home. (Which is One.)

For what to do to help along the awakening process, I recommend the book The Disappearance Of The Universe.

Quotes 2 Aug

Of one thing I am certain, the body is not the measure of healing - peace is the measure.
           -- George Melton

Friends, in my experience, are like ladies' fashions. They come and go with the seasons, and are rarely of such stout stuff as bears repeated wearing.
